We usually imagine that if our car does not start, it means that the battery has discharged or even its useful life is over, but this is not always the case. And while we might first explore causes such as the lights being left on, the air conditioning or a fuse failing or even the alternator, this is not always the case.

So let's explore some common causes that can cause the car not to start and could be mistaken for battery failure. Let's explore the fuel pump, which simply put, if it's not working, it won't start. This can happen because there is no pressure to the injectors, so the fuel will not reach the cylinders and the engine lacks the means to start.

One of the most common causes is the alternator, whose function is to transform mechanical energy into electrical energy to charge the battery and provide the necessary electrical impulse to the vehicle when it is running. Even if the car is already running, if the alternator breaks down, it will stop supplying power to the car and the car will shut down.

It is important to check the fuses because they are responsible for protecting the electrical elements of the vehicle. If there is a short circuit or the current reaches an excessive level that could damage the electrical systems, the fuse breaks and cuts off the flow of current to prevent the discharge from reaching the electrical elements. Therefore, if the car does not start, you should check the fuses and make sure that the ones protecting the switch are not blown.

Now called the starter motor, the old-timers of the region use to call it simply "the gear" which is nothing more than the electromechanical system of our car and its main function is to transform electrical energy into mechanical energy, as it provides energy to the pistons so that they turn and start the internal combustion.

If, after checking the battery, the car still won't start and you notice that it struggles to start, you hear clanking or squealing noises, it smells burnt, or you notice dry knocks when supplying power to the powertrain, it is likely that the gear is in poor condition and needs to be replaced.
